Doctor Teague received a B.S. in biology from Berry College in 1976. That year he married the former Katherine Winfrey of Tobaccoville, NC. They moved the next year to Memphis to attend Southern College of Optometry where he graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1981. Soon after graduating, they moved to Savannah, GA for three years to practice in the US Army at Ft. Stewart. After a year practicing in Salisbury with SCO classmate Dr. Rick Bartlett, Dr. Teague moved back to the Winston -Salem area to open the Eye Care Center in December of 1985. His son, Will, is an optometrist practicing in Asheville and daughter Emily has an administrative position with a large national eye care group.
